Harry Turnmeyer, a volunteer chief up until last year. He took over the parade and the size of the parade has tripled over the last seven years. This year there will be 200 entries, including the newly crowned Miss Virginia in her first appearance.
McCabe says, “Now the parade is a little more organized. Moe used to do everything, even the parade. I don’t know how he did it! I don’t have to mess with the parade. I delegate the bingo, one man handles that. The ladies auxiliary handles all the food and drinks.”
But the hardest thing about running a carnival is getting the volunteers to man the booths and help out. For the carnival’s four nights, it is difficult for McCabe to find a volunteer staff.
