The grape grower from “Little” Washington just couldn’t convince herself to stay out of the race.
On Monday, Meredith Gorfein announced she would challenge incumbent Del. Jay Katzen (R) for the 31st District House of Delegates seat, which he has held for six years.
“I decided I had to do this. Call it a calling,” said Gorfein, who, along with her husband, owns Rush River Vineyard in Rappahannock County.
“I am entering this campaign because I wanted someone I could vote for,” said Gorfein in her announcement in front of the Washington courthouse.
“Someone who would represent me,” she continued, “someone willing to fight fiercely for our public schools, someone who cares about preserving the natural beauty of our three counties, someone who would fight tooth and nail to keep our local zoning ordinances from being gutted, someone in the House who could help us control growth without prohibiting it.
