• Mrs. Patty Hottinger’s Pre-School Class at RCES hosted a party at their “Butterfly Cafe” on Thursday, June 3. Through a grant obtained through Headwaters, Mrs. Hottinger, with her able assistants, Mrs. Linda Clark and Custodian Mr. David Alther, has transformed the courtyard, directly behind the RCES library, into a beautiful butterfly garden.
Through this wonderful experience, her children have improved their verbal skills as well as their gross and fine motor skills. They have learned to identify butterflies and birds that appear in the garden, as well as the perennials that are planted there. The children got to choose the plants that they most wished to include in this garden that will be here for students to enjoy for years to come.
• We are saddened by the passing of one of our very special volunteers, Mrs. Catherine Crisdone of Flint Hill. Mrs. Criscione approached us three years ago about volunteering and said that she was willing to work “wherever we needed her most”. When transportation to and from school became a concern, she was willing to ride a school bus so that she wouldn’t have to miss her assigned days, and this was arranged.
