When such conditions exist, forages should be tested and the level of these toxins quantified. A strategy for using these feeds can then be developed.

Environmental issues should be considered when setting pasture carrying capacity during times of drought. Items to evaluate include both the condition and slope of the pasture land. Highly erodible land can be adversely affected if drought conditions result in overgrazing. - Maintaining an adequategrass cover should be a priority on lands susceptible to ero-. sion. This can be a concern in extreme we weather conditions as well as drought.

Ultimately, the stocking rate of pasture land is the decision of the landowner, however, care should be exercised to make sure the rates set meet the short-and longterm goals of the producer. Attention should be given to available resources and the cost associated with the management strategies employed in setting pasture carrying capacities on a specific farm.
