Sandra Oliver and Rebecca Metcalfe were nominated by Rappahannock County High School to represent their school at Virginia Girls State. They traveled to Longwood College in Farmville to partake in the activities June 20 through June 25.
Virginia Girls State gives each person an opportunity to live together as self-governing citizens. They are informed of the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American Citizenship in order to gain an understanding and to participate in the functioning of their government. It was an exciting week.
Miss Oliver was sponsored by the Rappahannock Lions Club. Miss Metcalfe was sponsored by the American Legion in Culpeper. Both girls are upcoming seniors at Rappahannock High School.
Our condolences are extended to the family and friends of Eddie Hitt who passed away this past week.
Funeral services were held on July 14 at the Amissville United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Amissville United Methodist Church Building and Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 108, Amissville, Va. 20106.
