Sculpture workshop scheduled
A summer sculpture workshop, figure in clay, will be held Aug. 13, 14 and 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The $225 fee includes model and materials. The workshop will be taught by Charles Flickinger at Oldway Art Center, behind Glassworks Gallery in Sperryville. For information call 987-8718.
Flint Hill carnival underway
The annual carnival sponsored by the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company is currently underway and will continue through Saturday, July 24 beginning at 7 each evening.
The grand parade will be held on Friday, July 23 beginning at 6:45 p.m. Miss Virginia, Crystal Lewis, will be making her first public appearance since receiving the title.
Rides are $6 on . Wednesday and $8 Thursday through Saturday evenings. Barbecue chicken dinners will be available Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well as fine food and baked goods from the Ladies Auxiliary. Saturday night will be the crowning of the queens and awarding of prizes. Make sure to attend!
Calling Varsity basketball girls
All Varsity basketball girls who are going to play for the upcoming year should note that conditioning drills will begin on Aug. 2 and run through Aug. 5 from 6 to 8 each evening. For more information or anyone with questions contact Coach Luther Stanley at 987-8277.
Art Camp planned
Young people ages 5-12 are invited to attend the fifth annual Art Camp with Laurie Marshall at the Rappahannock Recreation Center Aug. 2-6 from 9:30 a.m. to 12. The cost is $45, which includes most materials. Scholarships are available. There are a few spaces left. Call 675-3267 to register.

Sunday, Aug. 1: “Blue Ridge to the Bay “ Speaker Series “Terrestrial and Streamside Salamander Monitoring in Shenandoah National Park” with Robin Jung and staff from Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Library (off US 211 near Washington, phone. 675-3780).
Saturday, Aug. 14: “Second Saturday Hike Series” to trails in Shenandoah National Park (SNP) adjacent to headwaters of Rappahannock River Watershed tributaries. Meet at Mountainside Market on US 211 west of Sperryville between 8-8:30 a.m. and car pool to trail head, return mid-afternoon. Bring food for self and clothing according to weather of day. Destination: Nicholson Hollow Trail on Hughes River.
Art workshop slated
On Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Laurie Marshall will hold a workshop to explore making art to the , story of Genesis at Hearthstone School. Charcoal, pastel and watercolor will be used.
