Council member and Fourth of July Committee chair Charles Tompkins provided the Council with his “99 4th report” in which he presented both highlights and criticisms of the event. He noted that attendance during the day was slow due to the heat, but that the evening events were well attended.
He also reported on the perception that there was resentment over the parking fees, but stated that those fees are one of only two sources of revenue for offsetting event expenses, the other being vendor fees. The report also presented preliminary financial data that showed at net income of $676.34 after expenses of $10,266.81. Tompkins encouraged suggestions and volunteers for next year’s celebration.
