Virginia State Police reported on three separate incidents in Rappahannock County last week.
Eric Smith, 21, of Sperryville escaped a serious accident without injury on July 10 in Castleton. Smith was heading west on Route 626 around 11:30 p.m. in a 1997 Ford pickup owned by Netus Dodson, also of Sperryville. Smith was alone in the vehicle. He ran off the road near Route 616, struck a tree and overturned back into the road. Damage to the pickup was estimated at $17,000. Smith was charged with driving under the influence.
In the early morning hours of July 12, Randy Smoot of Washington, Va. was travelling on Route 616 just south of Route 626 when he lost control of his 1989 Ford in a curve. His vehicle went off the road, overturned and ended upright. Smoot, who was not injured, was charged with reckless driving. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $3000.
During the afternoon of July 13, Robert Dunn, Jr. of Marshall fell asleep at the wheel of his 1984 Plymouth van. It went off the road, then struck a utility pole and 911 pole. Damage to the van is estimated at $2000. There were no injuries, and the driver has been charged with reckless driving.
