Expansion
project
accepted,
new fields
on hold
by Gerald Ochs
Rappahannock News Special Writer
In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the Rappahannock County School Board agreed to accept the bid of a Warrenton construction firm for the RCHS expansion project, pending a review of references and bonding. The offer by Miller Brothers, Inc., amounts to $3,038,300 for the base bid less a board-selected deduction to eliminate classroom folding partitions. This action by the School Board will assure project start-up soon, and should assure project completion before the commencement of the 2000-2001 school year. ,,
Due to construction market conditions that currently favor the seller (construction firms), the bids received for both the RCHS expansion and for RCES new athletic fields were over budget, forcing the Board to postpone the award or even cancel the procurement of the new athletic fields.
