• Dr. Gangel reviewed progress in predictor development, noting that predictor testing is necessary to effectively assess student progress in SOL curriculum areas and to predict their success in SOL testing. He noted that he expects completion of predictor test development within the next two years, and Assistant Superintendent Mary Biggs displayed the first predictor test developed, the Algebra Predictor Test. Chair Tble and several other Board members expressed their concern that there is much SOL focus and there should be some balance. Dr. Gangel noted his agreement, but said that he expected to broaden focus once the new SOL-related process has been institutionalized and the students have had the success there.
• The Board received and approved food service bids from Schenck Foods in Winchester, Merchants Grocery in Culpeper, Schmidt Bakery in Stephens City, and Shenandoah’s Pride Dairy in Winchester.
• Dr. Gangel reviewed schools maintenance activity progress and highlighted the progress made on the RCES roof
• Dr. Gangel reported that no ‘behind the wheel’ certified instructor has been identified for the upcoming school year, and thus no ‘behind the wheel’ instruction will be provided by the Rappahannock School system.
