Nancy Lea Cargill was graduated in June from Liberty High School, Bedford ranking first in her class of 245. She is granddaughter of Mrs. T.C. Lea of Washington. In earlier years she attended school in Rappahannock. Mrs. W.C. Campbell placed a wreath at the base of the town marker in Washington during the celebration of the 225th birthday of the town. Donna Cannon of Castleton showed the grand champion steer in last week’s Culpeper Farm Show in 4-H competition. The animal weighed 1130 pounds and was sold to Safeway in Culpeper for $1.01 per pound.

Amissville United Methodist Church members are putting on their Sunday best for a big celebration. Robed in the 19th Century tops, hats and hoop skirts, the Methodists will celebrate the 160th anniversary of their church on Sunday, Aug. 13. The Town of Washington will celebrate its 240th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 19 with an evening of music, food and fun on Gay Street in front of the courthouse complex.
