Bob Herrema doesn’t have to be at work at 8 a.m. It’s a good thing, because he lives in Washington, Va. and works in Washington, D.C.
Herrema is one of two new members of the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals. He replaced Martin Woodard, who resigned a few months ago. Herrema responded to an ad in the paper and went before Judge Shore Robertson, who appointed him to the seat.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., Herrema moved to Washington, D.C. in 1964 to do graduate work at George Washington University (GWU). It was there that he met his wife, Joanie. He worked for a time as Assistant Director of Personnel at GWU and then as an Administrative Assistant to Lowell Weicker, who served in both the U.S? Senate and U. S. House.
In the spring of 1977, he decided to move on ir to another field. Herrema started working as a developer and builder, mainly restoring historical buildings.
He has renovated numerous buildings in the Capitol Hill historical district. Among them were two turn of the century schools and an old church that he turned into condominiums.
