It’s been two and a half years since I moved to Rappahannock and it’s high time that I got my laundry done. That spare room has turned into a dirty linen dump, and the drought has further impaired my ability to provide myself with clean clothing. I can’t even rely upon the tried and true (and environmentally sound) method of beating my clothes on the rocks in the streamthe stream is, of course, bone dry, and the effectiveness of that cleaning method is highly dependent upon having water to float out the grime.
Brian Ross of Mountainside Market in Sperryville has taken another bold step in bringing tools of civilization to those of us whose water supply will never accommodate the multiple wash and rinse cycles of a Speed Queen. This Thursday, Aug. 12, he will open what appears to be Rappahannock’s first and only laundering facility, The Soho Laundromat.
