Sheriff’s Department donates vehicle lift
Citing vehicle maintenance efficiencies and safety concerns, Sheriff Larry Sherertz announced to the Board that he had ordered a heavy duty vehicle lift for the school systems’ bus garage. The Sheriff noted that his department’s vehicles are maintained there as well, and thought that this donation, created from funds left in the budget at the end of the fiscal year, could serve well the Rappahannock community. The School Board and Superintendent Gangel thanked Sheriff Sherertz for his offer, and the School Board voted to accept the donation, and to establish a community advisory group to discuss other possible uses of the lift facility.
Sheriff Sherertz also briefly mentioned the School Resource Officer program, and that he has applied for a Federal grant to fund the cost of a deputy assigned to school grounds. He also noted that if the grant is not obtained, that he will still provide the School Resource Officer and find funding elsewhere. He reported that one of his deputies will attend a resource officer training program at the end of this month.
