The Commissioner of Revenue and Registrar are a couple of offices that use such equipment, The schools expect all critical systems to be compatible by the time school starts. According to Holly Pendleton from thd Rappahannock County School Board, over 80% of their critical systems are already complaint. Most of their non-critical systems are old computers that have been donated to the schools. Pendleton says that these are not a priority at this time. He also says that about half of their computers are Macintosh computers, which have few if any Y2K problems to start with. .» Utilities that serve the county Phone, cable and electric companies have a little more at stake, as they service a much broader area than just one county. Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and Allegheny Power supply electricity to county homes. Phone service is provided by Bell Atlantic and Sprint. Adelphia Cable provides cable TV service to. the county’s residents. As one might expect, these companies have more systems to be concerned about. And more money has to be spent. These companies expect to spend anywhere from $350,000 (Adelphia) to $1.3 million (Rappahannock Electric Co-op) to $20 million (Allegheny Power) to over $300 million (Bell Atlantic, Sprint).
