When it started to look like the Amissville community would lose the post office, people sprung into action. Six months later, the Amissville Area Community Organization is still growing.
The group was the idea of Jan Makela, Victoria Miller and Kathryn Treanor. They had been considering organizing a group to bring people in the Amissville community together, educate them and get them more involved.
Then the post office became a major issue. “That’s what got it started,” said Mrs. Miller, who heads up the group’s committee in charge of drafting its bv-laws.
