On the night of Aug. 9 a twister hit F.T. Valley on Hazel Mountain in the area of State Route 707. The twister was one of the worst storms to afflict an area of Rappahannock County in recent years. On the property of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Beck and Mr. aqd Mrs. E.W. Gore a large number of trees were uprooted by the heavy winds. In many instances trees were twisted off at the base of the trunk like match sticks. The storm also took the tops off several trees near the residence of E.N. Montague. The twister completely ravaged approximately five acres of park land on Hazel Mountain. It then skipped across the valley, missing the Montague residence and damaging the Gore property. After striking the Gore property the storm appears to have vanished. Monday, Aug. 11 through Saturday, Aug. 16 saw a riding clinic at High Thicket Farm, the Sperryville residence of Mrs. James P. Jamieson. The clinic features a week of work over cavaletti with emphasis on rudimentary jumping. Its purpose is to teach the horse and rider to work
