Road construction projects in Rappahannock County are proceeding as planned, according to Tommy Legg at VDOT’s Warrenton office.

Bridge work on Route 612, just east of Sperryville, is almost finished. The road, which had to be closed for bridge deck replacement, has been re-opened. Most of the remaining work consists of cleaning up around the construction site.

Reconstruction of the Thornton Gap entrance ramps to Skyline Drive is underway. Meanwhile, a temporary entrance to the drive has been set up near Panorama Restaurant and Gift Shop. Paving on U.S. 211 at that location is expected to begin in early September.

Work on Route 729 is expected to begin soon. Legg says that bids are in and work will start once a contract has been awarded by VDOT.
