During his service, he received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and his division participated in the invasion of Normandy. He was wounded in combat, and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with bronze arrowhead.
Following his military service, Mr. Walters began a 33 year career with the Federal Aviation Administration at Washington National Airport. After retirement from the government, he was captain of Pinkerton Security for Bendix Corp., and for 10 years was a foreman in the thoroughbred racing industry. He was a member of American Legion Post 60.
Mr. Walters was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene Walters.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Walters of Laurel, Md.; son Larry Walters and his fiancee, Patricia Masino, also of Laurel; brother, G. Russell Walters and his wife, Kitty of Laurel; five sisters-in-laws, one of whom include Beatrice Sheppard of Sperryville; two brothers-inlaw; a granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
