The concept map and accompanying depiction of the coverage being proposed by Sprint are based on the “Longley-Rice Model,” with adjustments for the effects of vegetation and buildings. This implementation of Longley-Rice is as prescribed by the Federal Communications Commission in a recent rulemaking proceeding.
As would be expected, coverage projections generated by this improved model do not necessarily agree fully with the dense-urban “Okumura (Japan) Hata Model” utilized by Sprint - which is why the graphic shows better coverage by the Sprint seven-facility system than does Sprint’s own map.
An additional benefit of the concept presented here is that the same hilltops could support modem fire and rescue communications at all potential frequencies.
