The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection ended a challenging year and began a new one at its annual meeting Oct. 19 at Rappahannock County High School.
RLEP elected 15 directors to serve the organization for the remainder of this year and until the annual meeting in 2002.
Returned to the board are Don Audette, Charles Delvecchio, Alan Dranitzke, Jim Gannon, Hal Hunter, Phil Irwin, Emery Lazar, Paul Komar, Bob Lander, Marc Malik, Joy Sloane, Bruce Sloane and Mitzie Young. Richard Biby and Bruce Jones were elected to first terms.
After the open meeting for all members, the new Board of Directors met and elected officers.
Bob Lander, outgoing Vice President, was elected President; and Bruce Sloane and Emery Lazar were reelected Treasurer and Secretary, respectively. Jim Gannon stepped down as president after two years in this position.
The members participated in discussions on the current issues affecting the county’s environment. Each of these was introduced by a director who spearheaded RLEPs ' efforts - Paul Komar on lighting, Emery Lazar on sludge and Jim Gannon on cell-phone towers.
