He was a founding member of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department and served as its first secretary. He served on the Rappahannock County Selective Service Board for many years.

A lifelong farmer, he enjoyed buying and selling livestock and the friendships that that pursuit brought him.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Zinn Hackley; his son. Larry Graham Hackley of Winchester, Ky.; his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ronald Makela of Amissville; a grandson, Joshua Bryan Hackley Makela of Amissville; one brother, Leon Byrne Hackley of Front Royal; three nephews; four nieces, nine great-nieces and nephews and two great-great nephews.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday. Oct. 26 at the Amissville United Methodist Church by Rev. Karen Adams.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Moser Funeral Home in Winrenton was in charge of the arrangements.
