The Washington Town Council failed to reach a majority on the choice of a candidate to replace Steve Critzer and, were it not for a last minute admonition from Bob Weinberg, would have allowed the Circuit Court to make that selection for them.
The Council seat vacated by Mr. Critzer as a result of his resignation on Sept. 11 needs to be filled by the Tbwn Council within forty-five days thereafter, according to Town Attorney John Bennett, or else the task will be assumed by the Circuit Court.
Council members nominated two candidates for the seat—Mayor Willis naming Barbara Stockton and Claudia Mitchell nominating Gene Leggett—and the voting resulted in a three-to-three tie with no possibility apparent for compromise.
Comments from the public and Council members indicated that some engineering preceded the Town Council meeting, and there were also indications of a strong correlation
