Special to the Rappahannock News

At the recent meeting of the Rappahannock County Garden Club, Holly Green of Green Gardens in Warrenton presented a slide program entitled “Water in the Garden.”

The club enjoyed her beautiful examples of water gardens: ponds, pools and water stairs from several famous bastiens of beauty including Longwood Gardens, Wintertur, Chanticleer, and the National Arboretum, as well as some in residential settings.

Ms. Green also passed on her soil-mix recipes for successful plantings using products such as Leafgro, Virginia Superfines, and Virginia Pine Nuggets in various combinations.

For perennials she suggested using twice as much of the Superfines mixed with Leafgro.

For containers and potted plants she uses equal parts of nuggets and Superfines.
