According to Rapidan Better Housing, which represents Rappahannock County, a recent Virginia Housing Development Authority workshop found the following items to be true:
• There is a growing gap between income and housing costs for very low-income people.
• There is a shortage of affordable housing in Rappahannock County.
• Much of the housing available to very low-income people is in extremely poor condition.
• There is a lack of public awareness and support ‘for housing issues; therefore, affordable housing is not a local priority.
One solution would be to repair/remodel the existing housing inventory in Rappahannock County.
