Moonlight hike planned
A moonlight hike of Old Rag Mountain will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20. Interested participants should meet at the upper parking lot for Old Rag Mountain, off Route 231/600 past Nethers by 6 p.m. There should be no question as to your physical, mental or emotional well-being about doing this adventure. Bring nourishment (water and snack) for self, layerable clothing (including windbreaker) and a small flashlight or headlamp in case of clouds. There will be no hike if it is raining.
Future moonlight hikes of Old Rag and other locations will take place from October through May. Not all hikes will be announced in advance, though at least one hike per month is usually in the Rappahannock News and on the Ragged Mountain Resource Center website.
There are also regular “Second Saturday Hikes" each month (next one is Nov. 9), and there will be campouts, intensive “hike-runs", “bike-hikes’, “youth adventure" programs, “community clean-ups" and other educational and recreational activities throughout the year, depending upon conditions, funding and interest (both leadership and participatory). Contact Ragged Mountain Resource Center Director and founder Hunt Harris for any additional information or input, 987-3366.
