Washington’s oldest resident, Mrs. Nora Kendall, went back for a visit last week to the home that she and her husband remodeled from an old.one-room school house. She exchanged stories of years long gone by with Mrs. Thelma Ingle, mother of the house’s present owner, Col. R.H. Ingle Jr.
Lady firefighters who attended the October fire school held in Amissville included Terri Martin and Violet Scott of Amissville and Diane King of Warrenton. The 30-hour course had 167 enrolled with 133 completing all aspects of it, including four women. Firemen came from eight counties and one city for the school which is sponsored by the local Fire and Rescue Association.
Wakefield School’s new band, under the direction of Kenneth Shook, posed for a photograph during a recent rehearsal. Local students in the band include Russell Riddell, Raymond Riddell, Michael White, Bobby Gheringer, John Piper, John Kline and Jennifer Kline.

In a front page photo, at The Meadows in Washington, one of homes for the annual Trinity Tour and Dried Flower sale, Mrs. Jane Herndon served afternoon tea to Kelly Settle and her mother, Maybelle Gilkey. The event was well attended as always.
The Child Care and Learning Center is sponsoring the fourth annual Haunted Hay Rides and Bonfires Saturday, Oct. 24 at Mountain Green Farm outside Washington.
Festivities will begin at 5 p.m., when the gate opens and families can sit around campfires and roast hot dogs and marshmallows and sip apple cider. Raw hot dogs, buns, cider and baked goods will be on sale.
