With the election so near, it
was a shame to see Mr. Marocchi’s string of bluntly false statements smearing John Kerry in our local paper on the eve of the election, with no balancing opinions from a Kerry supporter.
It says a lot that an ardent supporter of the incumbent Mr. Bush has no better argument for his man than to rehash disproven ugly personal attacks on the challenger, without a single word of actual praise for the man he supports. Only Mr. Marocchi can say for sure if it’s the product of listening to the hateful and wildly inaccurate rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh and his many fellow travelers on the radio, MSNBC and FOX.
But as both Bush and McCain have said, Kerry is right to be proud of his record in Vietnam.
Tb his credit, I’m sv^e Mr. Marocchi is sincere in his belief of the false and misleading statements he repeats. A recent political survey entitled “The Separate Realities of Bush and Kerry Supporters,” conducted with spotlessly scientific methodology by the University of Maryland, shows something important about supporters of the president. Among the more important examples: the bipartisan 9/11 commission, the Senate Intelligence Committee, and the Iraq survey group headed by David Kay that Bush appointed have all concluded that Iraq neither had significant WMD nor programs to produce them.
