I received my personnel property tax bill this week and was not shocked, as it was the same amount last year.

I did however have a question concerning my bill so I called the revenue office. After the very helpful person answered my question, we started chatting about the cur, rent tax situation in our beautiful county. We both marveled at the increase in property values and subsequent rise of the tax rate. I asked if there was any end to the increases in sight.

She said, “not likely, at the prices houses and land are going for around here.”

She went on to say there was going to be another assessment next year. That really got me thinking of all the elderly people with fixed incomes who have lived the better part of their fives in the county, most with a nice old house and a good piece of land. I thought of the single income families, like my own, trying to make a nice
