The boy’s varsity soccer team at Wakefield Country Day School (WCDS) closed out their season Oct. 19 with a 5-4 win at home against arch-rival Wakefield Inc.

WCDS fans braved the steady rain and cold to cheer on the varsity boys in what proved to be an exciting afternoon exchange.

It was a close match all the way, with each team taking turns scoring until the final three minutes, when Paul Beattie of Woodville scored the winning goal on a penalty kick.

Paul is one of four team members who will be graduating this year, joined by James Nilan of Warrenton (awarded Honorable Mention, All Conference for the Delaney Athletic Conference), Jesse Paul of Warrenton, and Alec Toth of Front Royal, making this, their final game, quite a memorable one.

The “Man of the Match” award was given to eighthgrader Keenan Sherwood of Washington, who successfully played man-to-man
