Absentee voters have until Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. to cast their vote at the Registrar’s office on Gay Street in Washington. The office is open for absentee voting Friday, Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Saturday Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mail-in ballots are by Nov. 1.
Absentee ballots are kept in a fireproof vault in the Registrar’s office until election day at which time they are added to the ballots in the appropriate precinct.
Votes are tallied after the 7 p.m. closure of the polls. After that time, statewide results will be posted by locality on a special web site run by the State Board of Elections. It is http:\\sbe. vipnet.orgN nov2004\.
