The political climate today reminds me of the Vietnam era. As a veteran from that era, I can tell you how disheartening it is for a soldier at war not to have the backing of his fellow countrymen. They are why men and women go into the military. Our soldiers are protecting our homeland. Don’t let them feel like their country doesn’t back them.
Let’s let Bush finish what he’s started. Then perhaps, unlike the Vietnam war, this war might be won. The issues of those days prompted burning of draft cards, burning bras and burning the American flag, and fighting for the right to kill unborn babies. What message did we send to our front-line soldiers then? We discouraged them.
One of our soldiers in Afghanistan says he supports the efforts of our president. He is there and knows first hand what he is doing there. If anyone is still undecided about who to vote for, maybe they would consider the wellbeing of Josh and other military persons who would feel safer with Bush as president.
Words cannot express the overwhelming feelings I experienced by receiving a call from the battlefield. I just wanted to share with you, so I have. Thank you for letting me do it.
