It is now clear that the Bush
administration’s fiscal promises made during the 2000 election have been broken so I ask you to consider whether you can trust Mr. Bush’s current promises for the next four years.
Review these facts and see if it’s easier to decide. In direct contradiction to his promise four years ago to ensure social security benefits for our citizens, our retirement and disability system has become more vulnerable. The president is using the social security surplus, which will be needed in the next few years when baby-boomers start to retire in record numbers, to fund his tax cuts. Bush’s proposed budget for the future would spend the entire surplus over the next five years to cover the administration’s tax cuts for the affluent and corporate elite.
In contradiction to Bush’s promise to make health care more affordable, citizens are paying record increases for their healthcare and prescriptions, or may not have healthcare benefits at all. The Medicare Bill did not help those that needed it most, but instead helped the large pharmaceutical companies get richer.
In contradiction to Bush’s promise to protect our country’s industries, this administration’s tax and trade policies have been called a “disaster” by many in Congress, including Senator Byrd of West Virginia, with record numbers of jobs being lost overseas.
