FEASTING
In Mexico, the living offer com porridge and chocolate to the souls of the deceased, as feasting with the dead is celebrated once a year on the first of November. This time affords the chance for families to come together in remembrance and appreciation of their ancestors. It is a rezo, or family custom, that combines centuries- old Mayan ritual with Catholic prayers and songs. The most important offering is the com, but the children are excited about the chocolate. In time, they too, will come to fully appreciate the custom that draws family together in a generationspanning festive atmosphere. This is but one way that we keep our deceased family members part of our lives.
