with the National Symphony Orchestra; violinist Marilyn McDonald, who teaches and performs extensively on both the modern and the baroque violin; and Kenneth Slowik, cellist, who heads the Smithsonian’s Chamber Music program, and whose musical interests have expanded in recent years to include conducting.
At first spanning about a century and a quarter—from the time of Haydn and Mozart to the age of Brahms and Tchaikovsky—the Trio’s repertoire has now extended to quite modern composers. But it is for performances of the works of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven that the Castle Trio remains best known. And it is music of these three composers which forms the program for the concert at the Theatre on November 6: the Trio in E-flat Major, Hob. XV:29 by Haydn, the Trio in C Major, K548 by Mozart, and the Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 1, No. 1 by Beethoven.
