The American people are a worried people, and not only about terrorism and the war in Iraq. We have lost jobs, seen our incomes decline, wonder how we will pay to heat our homes this winter, and hope we will get to the front of the line before the flu vaccine runs out. But the president says the economy is growing, we need more tax cuts, and we can ask Canada to share some of its flu vaccine. That’s the same Canada we can’t get lower cost prescription drugs from because they might kill us.
The challenges we face are the legacy of the president’s first term. We can ill afford a second term.
The support for Senator Kerry for president comes as much from an opposition to what President Bush has done in his first term and might do in a second as it is an assuredness of what a President Kerry will do. But the promise is there.
Senator Kerry has dedicated his life to public service, beginning as a volunteer Navy lieutenant in Vietnam. He was a prosecuting attorney and lieutenant governor of his home state, and brings a long career in the U.S. Congress to this campaign. He is intellectually curious and reflective in his decisions and willing to accept changed circumstances as requiring reconsideration. He is a man of faith who unde" stands the line between what he believes and what the government should mandate. He has sought to motivate the voters with hope, not fear.
We believe a Kerry presidency will get the country back on course at home, restore our reputation and alliances around the world, and bring hope to all of us about the future.
We hear again and again that this is the most importan election of our times. We agree. The choice between Mr. Bush and Senator Kerry seems to have equally divided the country. We hope the choice the voters will make on Election Day will bring the country back together. We believe the better choice is John F. Kerry for president.
