Catholic (and says he believes human life begins at conception) but votes to support the right to abortion in all circumstances, even partial-birth abortion; who says he opposes same-sex marriage, but voted against the Defense of Marriage Act; and who promises a pro-abortion litmus test for Supreme Court justices, in effect erecting a religious test for office that would rule out faithful Catholics, among others. If Kerry's deeply held moral convictions have no influence on his official decisions—as he has said—what guides him besides pure politics?
Ultimately, the choice for president boils down to issues of character. On character grounds, it is an easy choice for me. I lack confidence in Kerry as a leader and as a man of conviction. I vote to give Bush a chance to wun the war the terrorists started, and to signal the world that America will not flinch in that fight.
