Six years ago Nicholas took ownership of the store, after having worked there as a teenager. He also works for Ross Industries during the day, enabling him to work in his own store several evenings each week.
While he does not carry the Hackley name, his mother, Nancy Nicholas is Dorothy Hackley’s sister, thus keeping the store in the Hackley family.
Deli and pizza
With the change in ownership, there have been some new directions in the business which include deli offerings and pizza.
“People tell us we have the best pizza around,” said Nancy Nicholas who fills in for her son as needed in the store. “We get the working crowd here, and many of them just sit on the front porch to eat lunch.”
In fact, Hdckley’s sells approximately 2Q0 pizzas each week, mostly oil Friday and Saturday night,, according to Kristi Whorton, manager at the store.
