by 7% in Rappahannock County as a result of the very successful “Click It Or Ticket” law enforcement mobilization during the last two weeks of May. During this time, law enforcement agencies throughout Virginia participated in high visibility patrols to crack down on traffic law violations and enforce safety belt and child safety seat laws.
Immediately prior to “Click It Or Ticket”, an informal safety belt survey showed that just 70% of motorists in -Rappahannock County were properly restrained.
By the end of the mobilization, that number has increased to 77%. Surveys were conducted in the Flint Hill area.
“We’re extremely pleased to see this increase in safety belt use,” said Major Chris Williams. “It means that our citizens take their own safety and the safety of their passengers seriously.
“Click It Or Ticket” shows our citizens how much Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office cares about them, and how much we want to reduce motor vehicle related injuries and fatalities.”
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles says that 942 persons were killed in motor vehicle related crashes in 2003. Of those, 439 persons were unrestrained.
“Click It Or Ticket” is one of several programs under the Smart, Safe and Sober partnership, a statewide program dedicated to preventing death and injury on Virginia roadways.
It is a joint partnership of several state agencies, including the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office.
