cucumber and yogurt Unsatisfied with what she could get at the store, Selahi makes her own yogurt and blends the sauce fresh every day.

Healthy food

In France, the shaved roasted beef and lamb is usually stuffed into a pita or on a baguette with some salad and a huge fistful of piping hot shoestring fries. One sandwich like this will more than fill you up and sustain you all day.

At Mountain Cafe, though, Selahi eschews the fries. Partly, this is because the Persian food of her upbringing has lots of rice. But it is also because she brings a certain personal philosophy to her food.

“I’m trying to give people healthy food,” said Selahi who strives to serve food that is healthy, balanced and fresh. As summer comes along, Selahi plans to use a lot of fresh, local garden tomatoes, cucumbers and other produce. The idea is that the food should be tasty, healthy and good, but inexpensive; everyday food everyone can have, in an informal, deli-like atmosphere. Like the little places all over Europe, it’s not at all meant to be fancy. As Sehali stated, “we try to make it like a backyard picnic.”
