Kenyon received the science award, and Ronnie Atkins the mathematics award and Sherry Poe the history award.

Washington attorney Peter Luke has been named as a substitute judge and special justice in an order signed June 10 by Chief Circuit Court Judge Carlton Penn. Luke will sit on the bench in Rappahannock, Fauquier, and Loudon counties, the twentieth judicial circuit, as substitute judge for a term of six years. In his additional capacity as special justice, his primary duty will be to preside at commitment hearings. Under separate order, Luke has also been empowered to perform civil marriage ceremonies in Rappahannock County. A resident of Amissville Luke is married to the former Sharon Genebach, also a Rappahannock County attorney with offices in Washington.

June 14, 1995

After eight years of hard work studying the RCHS class of 2000 began their venture into high school where they will work harder and study longer. To celebrate the end of their elementary school careers the parents of the seventh grade graduating class sponsored a party for them. The event took place at the Washington Fire Hall from 8-11 p.m. Friday night. Those who attended enjoyed the music by the OKs. The guests included 40 to 50 students, parents of students who will be the eight grade next year and three of their teachers from this year. There was also a mystery guest, a woman wearing pink stockings and a mask: The group did the hokey-pokey, the limbo, and some occasional head banging. A few students slow danced while still others found the need to return to the ‘80s and break dance. Some of the other students sat and relaxed. Chad Heddleston, one of the students at the gala, even received a ride upon the shoulders of one of the other guests. The festivities were a success and, according to Cheryl Fairbrother, one of the organizers of the event. “Everyone had a great time,” she said.
