While in pursuit, the leader of the group, Raymond G. Lewis, 31, of Warrenton, took off at a high speed, leaving the group behind. Mauck followed in a high speed pursuit beginning at Rt. 640 near Amissville.
Mauck radioed ahead requesting assistance and the driver of the MV Agusta motorcycle was apprehended at the Warrenton town limits.
Mauck charged Lewis with a felony count of eluding a police officer after receiving an audible and visual request to stop, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. Warrenton Police Department assisted in the pursuit, thus placing a charge of felony eluding a police officer as well against Lewis.
Over the holiday weekend, both the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Department and the Virginia State Police increased patrols thought the county, resulting in numerous citations.
For the Sheriff’s Department, Lt. Connie Smith, Sgt. Mark Currance and Deputy Gaiy Jenkins wrote 21 speeding citations, five county tag violations, one inspection violation and one suspended license violation.
