The Washington Town Council approved a tap fee of $5,000 for new water tap connections at their October meeting. The new fee is an interim measure, designed to be applied to in-town tap requests only until the town planning commission recommends a permanent fee for adoption by the town council.

“It will cover us in the interim,” said Washington Mayor Eugene Leggett.

The fee for a new tap hook-up in Little Washington was previously $1,000, but this number was low compared to surrounding towns. Culpeper has charged new tap hookups $5,000 for several years.
