The Rappahannock League for Environmental
Protection is celebrating 35 years of courageous
and consistent effort to protect the rural countryside of Rappahannock.
Their first president Phil Irwin is alive and well and continues to support the work of this organization that has grown in numbers over the years. He's keen on powerlines. You won't see any around his place. Certainly Caledonia Farm has power but the energy comes from buried lines. Saves the view.
Paul Farmer serves as the current president and can count black bears as his neighbors and penning political forum pieces as a creative pastime. Paul loves the land as well and is carrying on a fine tradition.
Come and help them celebrate on Friday, October 28 at the Washington Fire Hall. Naturally there will be good food and music but the company you'll find there is what keeps this county from looking cluttered.
Speaking of protecting what we cherish, the Scrabble School Preservation Foundation is having a first-time event. It's a celebration of community and a kick-off to a major effort to find and preserve historical information about the school and its students.
Once again, there will be good food and music and lots of historical memorabilia to share. Come on Sunday, October 29 and join the directors and community members as they sponsor this first annual event. It will be held at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Scrabble.
