Healthy Roots
MeanHealtvTrees Root and soil problems are the leading cause of premature decline of landscape plants, resulting in greater than 80% of early failures. A forest setting provides optimum growing conditions for roots. Leaves and twigs decompose providing nutrients and natural protection from the elements. However most soils in the landscape are heavily compacted, have little or no organic matter, and are nutrient deficient. This is why mulching, fertilizing and soil aeration is so important.
The Root Invigoration Program is a new service developed to promote root growth on declining trees, construction damaged trees and newly transplanted trees. These treatments will produce up to a five-fold increase in tree root density. This leads to higher levels of water and nutrient uptake resulting in an overall improvement in tree health. In addition, Root Invigoration is an ideal way to prepare soil for shrub or bulb planting under existing trees without causing tree root damagt
The Root Invigoration Program basically consists of the following steps: •Nbur trees and shrubs are evaluated for viability. • Soil samples are collected providing information about nutrient content, soil pH and organic matter. • The supersonic air spade is then used to cultivate the soil, organic matter,and fertilizer is then incorporated into the soil. • A layer of mulch is applied at a depth of no more than 2-4 inches and should not be piled around the stem.
