Money was approved at subsequent Orange County and Madison County Boards of Supervisors meetings to pay for the bridge and roadwork leading to it. For example, on July 24, 1882, Orange County paid $500 and $30 respectively to two individuals working on the effort. On October 23, 1882, $1,000 was paid to the Columbia Bridge Works of Dayton, Ohio, as part payment for the bridge; and on November 16, 1882, payments of $765 and $800 to the Columbia Bridge Works were made to complete * Orange County's share of the bridge.
And so the three-span, onelane iron bridge came into being at Barnett's Ford, to be later called the Madison Mills Bridge.
