You can’t just
shoot at the deer
I kept telling myself, “Pick a spot. Pick a spot.” In bowhunting, the way I do it, concealment and stealth is everything. The deer was about 20 yards away, by my estimation. But, you can’t just shoot at the deer. You must pick a single, small, vital spot.
When it was possible to make the shot, I prayed my silent prayer for a good hit or a clean miss. And, then, you do not release the string; you relax your back muscles and the string escapes from your fingers.
I was rewarded for my efforts. I am writing this on Monday. Since Friday morning, the venison has been aging in an extra refrigerator, and I will work it up today. There will be no more store bought ground beef in this house for awhile.

You may have heard by now, but last week one of our favorite people, Alice Pullen, suffered a stroke. She is in Warren Memorial Hospital. I am told she has had so much company that the receptionist doesn’t have to look up her room number, anymore. Alice, we love you, and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
