How Is RCCA Different?
RCCA encourages easement donations through education and information to the community at large. The Krebser Fund targets specific properties for support.
Farmland Preservation Program
The Board of Supervisors established the Farmland Preservation Program in 2004 to purchase the development rights from owners of working farms. The program protects land by placing it in conservation easements and creates a financially competitive alternative to selling the land for nonagricultural purposes. The owner continues to own and farm the farm.
Settlement for the first recipient of funds from the Farmland Preservation Program is scheduled for May, 2006. Three hundred acres of county farmland will be protected by conservation easements. In short, farmers can offer their development rights to the Farmland Preservation Program in exchange for a lump sum payment the owner can spend as he/she wishes. The land represented by the payment is then placed in easement.
