Ginestera was 23 years old when he composed “Danzas” in 1939. Nicole’s selection of this obscure, difficult piece attests to her level of proficiency with her instrument. Two distinguished judges selected her performance as number one of three other pianists and a flutist, ranging in ages 11-18.
Julia Hutfils, an exchange student from Germany, and senior at RCHS, competed with two other vocalists and received Honorable Mention for her performance. She was accompanied by her teacher, Lynn Fournier. Julia’s host “parents” are Diane and Bob Belford of Flint Hill. Hutfils was judged the winner of the Rappahannock contest over five other vocalists making her eligible for the region contest.
