Burke pointed out that a loss to Page, which it is not a district match up, hurts because the teams could face each other in the regional tournament in late May. A split could be nice, he said, but it could be difficult because Page hosts the rematch April 7.
“We need to use our home field advantage,” Burke added, “because it’s going to be tougher to beat them over there.”
In the game against Page, Katie Burke rapped a two-run double in the seventh to send the game into extra inning tied at 5. But Page took advantage of some Rappahannock miscues in the ninth to pull out an 8-5 win.
The game was filled with fielding mistakes. Rappahannock’s seven errors led to just two earned runs for Page. The Lady Panthers scored just three earned rims off of Page’s misfires.
“I told the girls that it must have been a holiday as they gave Page a very nice gift,” Burke said.
A strong offensive showing, coupled with better defensive play, powered Rappahannock’s victory over Warren County Friday afternoon.
Amanda Smoot led the attack with a home run, two doubles and four RBI. Naramore finished with two singles, a double and four RBI.
Rebecca Tupper raised her record to 3-1. She allowed just two runs on four hits. She struck out seven in four innings of work.
“We did hit the ball better, but Warren didn’t have much pitching,” Burke said. “The game gave some of the younger kids some experience.”
